My Mother’s 80th Birthday

I would like to take a moment and raise a glass in honor of Nana (Mum, Mary).
As your oldest and favorite son I would like to say how beautiful you look tonight and what an inspirational, courageous and loving presence you continue to be in all our lives.
As you mark this milestone of 80 years we would like to remind you of how strong you are even as you are being challenged by your memory and at times, Dad.
Remember you have been with Dad for over 57 years… you are strong.
Remember you had to crew for Dad in the yacht club sailing races… you are strong.
Remember you gave birth to and raised 4 boys… you are strong.
Remember growing up we had multiple large hunting dogs that all weighed more than you… you are strong.
Remember we where visited by social services for the number of emergency room trips you made on our behalf – you are strong.
Remember you tried to teach all the boys on our street how to cook…. you are strong.
Remember you have welcomed daughters-in-law into the family… you are strong.
Remember you managed to survive talkative 2 year old girl grandchildren (I know boys where easier) – you are strong.
Remember you entertained multiple grandchildren for extended periods of time while their parents vacationed… you are strong.
Remember you managed Christmas for this family for so many years… you are strong.
Remember you managed a bunch of men on the hospital board… you are strong.
Remember you have been with dad for over 57 years… you are strong, oops already said that.
And now that you are 80 and if for what ever reason you are not feeling strong from time to time, we are all here for you, as you have been for us.
We love you.
